President Meets CEC

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday said new technology should be introduced to avoid duplication of votes and suggested that parliament should consider forming a committee comprising all political parties to look into this issue.
The president stated in his meeting with Election Commissioner of Pakistan Justice (retd) Hamid Ali Mirza, Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Babar Awan and Secretary Election Commission K.M. Dilshad.
President Zardari while congratulating Justice Mirza on assuming his new responsibilities as Chief Election Commissioner said an honest, dedicated and bold person was needed for this difficult job.
He hoped that Mirza would live up to the expectations of the people of Pakistan by bringing credibility and transparency into the electoral process in the country. He said that a mechanism should be devised to expedite the electoral appeals which are usually delayed.
The CEC informed the President that Election Commission was planning to develop a highly sophisticated Electoral Management System by placing vital election information online for public access through internet and cell phones.
He said this will enhance the credibility and transparency of electoral processes and will also facilitate voters and all stakeholders.
